- that I took Anatomy and Physiology 1 AND 2 in college
- I am a fast learner
- and I am Asian
Anyway, I don't want to give too many details about work (they might not appreciate my vagina anecdotes), but let's just say I will be working a lot of hours. I start training next Monday, and I've been busy shopping for clothes for my kids for the next five years so I can lay out their outfits for them. I think I found a good daycare for Megan, and some fun summer camps for Jay. I'm looking for someone affordable to clean my house once a week (and by affordable I mean a box of doughnuts and a case of Bud Light). I definitely won't feel like scrubbing tubs on my day off-- hell, I don't like scrubbing tubs when I'm home 24/7.
It has occurred to me that a great portion of my paycheck will be going to pay other people to do the things I used to do. Hmmm.
I'm excited about working again, but anxious about how we'll all adjust, especially Jason. At first he was all giddy about the extra money, and then the reality of him taking care of the kids a lot more on his own set in and he's been having minor panic attacks. But hey, we've got to give it a try. I really don't want to choose which kid gets to have braces, and which one gets to go to college. Keep your fingers crossed, Internet.

GOOD LUCK! I totally would have hired you for that neuro-surgeon position. That would have been a nice pay raise! :)
Having to go back to work after not doing it for a long time sucks but being piss broke sucks even worse. Good luck!
Good Luck! And working with the public is sometimes a chore, but remember, They're ALWAYS right. Even when they're wrong. Dumbasses. Anyways, just keep your eyes focused on the long term goals and it should help get through, but keep trying on something else. Good things come to those whose wait.
I hope everything goes great. Hopefully, something you really want will come along soon.
The comment about buying kids clothes 5 years in advance is hilarious...only because it's too true!
Hopefully everyone will adjust to the new schedule. Any chance you could spend your entire shift stealing sips of merlot in the kitchen? That might make it bearable.
The true meaning of "A Brave New World". It'll be a bitch making the adjustments, but by the middle of the Summer, you should all be pretty used to the new order. Take it from me after not having any ... "MONEY IS GOOD".
I've been back to work for about 3 months now...of course there are good days and WTF days...it helps knowing my son is in good hands and a little cash in my pocket is pretty nice too...looking fwd to seeing how it goes for you!
I thought being Asian meant you got an Internet job no matter what.
Hmmmm.......
But if your kids don't remember you in two years, I'll just tell them that I'm their mom. Same difference.
At least you didn't have go go back to hooking...
Ah, the glamorous world of food and beverage. The crazy hours and the crazier people. You gotta wonder why more people don't give it a try.
Good luck! I was a "restaurant widow" my whole marriage but that's b/c I traded times to work with my ex so he'd spend time with the kids.
It may not FEEL worth the trouble sometimes, but it'll be worth it in the end!
Good luck. You are SO going to need it. I'd do anything but work in a restaurant again. Well, ok, I probably would do that before I'd be one of those guys who cleans dog poop out of your yard for money, but it's a pretty close call. On the plus side, maybe you'll get some free food out of it.
Good luck!
You're not going to hire someone to write your blog for you, are you? I mean, someone might take the donuts and Bud to do it, but it just won't be the same.
Congrats and good luck! I feel your pain. I'm pretty much working just to pay for all my 18 year old son's extra curricular activities. Seriously, $150 for a day trip to the symphony? Come on!
Congrats on the new job!
Hey girl, good luck making all those adjustments, it's probably going to be harder on you than the kids. Maybe if you're manager you'll have free access to the booze storage and can reappropriate a couple of bottles of wine a week to make the transition back to full-time employment a little easier?
Um, not that I'm condoning theft.
Great post! You are an excellent writer and I look forward to reading your book when it comes out. Witty and funny.
I am also writing a book...I call it 'I don't wanna write this book so I will procrastinate and write blogs all day instead'...sure, the title might be a little long but i think it will really grab people!
If you wanna laugh too, check out my blog

(i know, shameless self promotion...but where else am i gonna find readers that like the same shit that i like?)
thank you for the support
NOt only does a large portion of my paycheck go to paying other people to do the stuff I used to do, but it also goes to paying men to do the shit my husband used to do.
Oh and I give a list to my mom of the clothes the kids need and she picks them up for me.
You've been gone awhile... just checking in. I hope all is well.
Oh, I'd like to hear how it's going! You ARE paying someone to blog for you now, right?
